Jowan Smith is the Author of Zakari Goes to College, Grandma Hattie's Ice Cream & Mya, Mya, Mya. As with her businesses, she uses her personal experiences to tell a story.

Jowan Smith holds a bachelor's degree in Public Policy and Management as well as a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. With a 15-year career in media, she excelled in sales, public relations, voiceovers, and event planning. She then dedicated five years as a Caseworker for Cuyahoga County before following her passion for youth empowerment.

After becoming a finalist in the Accelerate competition, Jowan launched Getting Our Babies to College 101, and a year later, she founded her nonprofit 1,000 Ties, supporting young men ages 10-17. Additionally, Jowan is a commercial model and voice actor for corporate training videos and commercials, further showcasing her diverse talents and dedication to community enrichment.

Jowan has eight published titles, including Grandma Hattie’s Ice Cream, which won an International Impact Award and was an Amazon Top 25 book twice. Her excellence extends to journalism, where she has covered stories on legends like Sharon Draper and Margaret Bernstein.

In recognition of her impact, she was inducted into the

John Hay High School Hall of Fame in 2022.

Her work continues to inspire and empower communities through education, storytelling, and mentorship.
